 Basic Worksite Traffic Management (BWTM)






This two (2) day course is a mandatory requirement to work on or near roads within WA. The course provides participants the theory and practical skills required to implement a traffic management plan, ensuring traffic flow is maintained and the safety risk to all road users and workers is minimised. This course does not include how to control traffic using a Stop/Slow bat, if this is a requirement please refer to BWTM/TC course. The course is delivered face to face and training includes classroom activities, theory questionnaires, group activities and implementing traffic signs using real live road environments. Assessment methods include written and practical assessments, using a range of locations and scenarios. This course is ideal for a wide variety of job roles such as General Labourers, Landscapers, Surveyors, Plant Operators, Site Supervisors and Project Managers.


Learning Outcomes

Set up, monitor and close down traffic control devices according to a TMP/TGS, WHS and legislative requirements

Communicate with others and operate a two-way radio correctly and effectively

Carry out risk assessments for personal safety and plan for emergencies that may arise

Identify risks/hazards and safety implications of traffic management at road works and apply control measures

Apply Work Health and Safety (WHS) requirements and adapt to operational needs

Assess and respond to changes in the environment such as weather conditions, road conditions, traffic volumes etc

Upon successful completion, all participants will be issued by AusQ Training RTO 52361 with the following nationally recognised Statement of Attainments:

usQ Training is a Main Roads WA approved training provider therefore upon successful completion and meeting all the required Main Roads WA pre requisites participants will also receive a digital Main Roads WA Basic Worksite Traffic Management (BWTM) accreditation (valid for 3 years).

2 days7:30 am – 4:00 pm (please arrive 15 minutes prior course times)

Pre Entry Requirements

Provide a Unique Student Identifier

Provide photographic identification upon arrival at training (eg driver’s licence, passport etc)

Have an adequate level of English literacy, numeracy and reading skills as training will involve reading work instructions and legislation, interpreting traffic guidance schemes, undertaking basic calculations, listening and questioning to clarify instructions

Have a good level of physical fitness/health as training will involve lifting/moving signs and devices (approximately 6-8kgs each), setting up/packing down sites

In order to meet Main Roads WA requirements, participants MUST:

Current or previous valid and recognised driver’s licence by Department of Transport WA (We accept those who are currently on provisional licences, however, we are unable to accept learners permits)

Hold evidence of being issued a valid Construction Induction Training Card also referred to as (Blue/White) Card.

To wear appropriate work attire, including:

steel-capped boots

hi-visibility long sleeved shirt

gloves

hat/sun protection

wet weather gear (where required)

The above work attire is essential due to the practical training and assessment completed during this course.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

The key difference between these two accreditation’s is that the BWTM/TC accreditation allows you to implement signage and stop / control traffic, whereas the BWTM only permits you to implement signage. The BWTM/TC accreditation is our most popular course and is required to become a qualified Traffic Controller. Whereas the BWTM is more suited to job roles that work off the road, in verge areas such as surveyors, landscapers, plant operators etc.
